Michigan’s billionaires keep getting richer.
Since 2020, the Ilitch family’s net worth grew from $3.8 billion to $4.8 billion. Stephen Ross’ fortune jumped by more than $10 billion. And Dan Gilbert’s wealth quadrupled from $6.5 billion to a whopping $27.8 billion, per Forbes .
But the role the uber-rich play in American life has also been under microscope lately, from Elon Musk’s stint in the White House to Bernie Sanders lambasting the oligarchy as tech giants Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook sat in the front row of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
It hasn’t stopped Michigan’s ultrawealthy class – Gilbert, Ross, Tom Gores and the DeVos and Ilitch families – from using their vast fortunes to continue reshaping downtown Grand Rapids and Detroit, though.
And they’re leani
