Court Decision Called a ‘Temporary and Limited’ Setback for President Trump’s Use of Troops in California

A new court ruling that found President Donald Trump violated the law by using the National Guard for immigration enforcement in Los Angeles is only a minor setback and does not prevent him from deploying troops in California, according to CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig.

Speaking on “Anderson Cooper 360,” Honig explained that U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer’s decision, while reinforcing the separation between the federal military and local police, leaves the President’s broader authority to deploy the National Guard intact.
