"I've never heard silence quite this loud" may be a lyric from Taylor Swift's song "Story of Us," but it could serve as the theme of this week's "New Heights" episode.
The singer's fiancé Travis Kelce avoided sharing nearly every detail about his engagement to Swift — from a wedding date to bachelor party invites — but he and his brother did spend seven minutes at the top of the episode discussing, as Jason Kelce phrased it, "the Instagram post heard 'round the world."
"Thank you guys, and I appreciate everybody that reached out and sent something and all the posts and all the excitement that's been going on," Travis said. "It's been really fun telling everybody who I'm going to be spending the rest of my life with."
The brothers joked about the difference between saying "girlfriend" versus "fiancée," with Jason quoting comedian John Mulaney. Travis admitted the shift hit him during his alma mater's season opener at Arrowhead Stadium on Aug. 28.
"One hundred percent, I felt that at the game actually," Travis said. "It was the first time introducing Taylor as my fiancée to a few of my teammates. … I still get giddy. It's exciting times. Still fresh."
When Jason tried to press for more, Travis clammed up.
"Bachelor party, man. How do you even know there's a bachelor party coming?" he laughed. "I haven't thought about it one second."
When Jason asked if "Intern Brandon" or social media producer Jake Chatzky were invited to the wedding, Travis said: "We're going to see how it all shakes out because I don't want to put them at a table they wouldn't mesh with."
Despite keeping most details private, Travis offered one piece of wisdom for anyone considering a proposal: "Man, you've gotta know your gal. You've gotta know your gal or your significant other. … Do it for the right reasons. Everything else will be beautiful."
Asking in the secret garden
Travis's dad, Ed Kelce, had no hesitation sharing behind-the-scenes details shortly after the engagement post was viewed by millions. Ed revealed to Cleveland's ABC affiliate that Travis proposed at his Kansas City estate on Aug. 10, shortly after taping "New Heights" with Swift.
Ed mentioned both he and Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, offered advice on how to make the moment special.
"You could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event," Ed said.
