AUSTIN, Texas — Paradromics, an Austin-based high data rate brain interface company, has successfully completed its first human implant of its brain-computer interface (BCI), marking a major step toward bringing lab-developed BCI technology into clinical use.
The company’s flagship device, called the Connexus BCI, uses a cortical module no larger than a dime to enable two-way communication between the brain and a computer.
Paradromics says the technology has the potential to restore essential functions lost due to injury or disease for millions of people.
“Think of it a little bit like a modem that allows your computer to go online,” said CEO Matt Angle. “But instead of your computer going online on the internet, it’s going online on the brain.”
