As kids head back to school this week, make sure you’re slowing down for a fleet of new speed zone cameras.
Ten new cameras will go online this month throughout Seattle, with more soon on the way.
The Seattle Department of Transportation will double the number of school safety cameras across the city, activating 37 cameras near 19 school sites through the end of the year. The Seattle City Council approved Mayor Bruce Harrell’s budget proposal that included funding for the traffic safety camera expansion by the end of 2025.
When yellow flashing lights are active, that means you’re in a school zone and the speed limit is 20 mph. The cameras activate when the lights are on. Drivers can be fined $237 for speeding.
