TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The town board is holding a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the zoning code that would allow a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to be sited in the town. The public hearing is taking place today, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. It will provide residents with an opportunity to express their opinions on the proposed amendment before the Town Board votes on the proposal.

The controversial BESS site on a parcel of land on Route 55, near Manchester Road, which is owned by Vassar College. The college sold the rights to Key Capture, a BESS company seeking approval to construct a facility at the site. Mid-Hudson News previously reported that the project is an initiative
