COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — Former Texas State Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, R-Parker, who represented part of Collin County from 2003 to 2019 and authored a sweeping abortion law in 2013, has died, according to state officials.

Laubenberg, who was 68, was elected to the Texas House of Representatives to represent House District 89 in 2002 and served until 2019, our content partners at the Texas Tribune report .

Laubenberg was best known as the author of the controversial House Bill 2 in 2013, which banned most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and imposed strict requirements, as the Tribune reports. Provisions of the law were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2016, before Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022.
