PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Girls’ sports are booming — but not all at the same pace. While volleyball participation has climbed nationwide over the past two decades, girls’ basketball has fallen off, and Oregon coaches say they’re seeing that split on local courts, too.
Madeline Andrew has lived the rise of volleyball. The high school senior has played since she was five and is headed to Michigan State University on a full-ride scholarship.
“Volleyball is my top priority,” Andrew said. “And so going to college, like, yes, obviously it’s about school. But like I always wanted to play volleyball. That was my biggest goal ever.”
