CLAY CENTER, Neb. (KSNB) - A judge has ordered a psychological evaluation for a man convicted of killing a Columbus woman.

Anthony Mattison, 36, Osceola, pleaded no contest last month and was convicted of second degree murder for the 2022 shooting death of 25-year-old Jasmine Garnett. Garnett’s remains were later found in a Clay county field.

Mattison’s attorney asked for an independent evaluation. On Wednesday, Judge Morgan Farquhar ordered that he be examined by a doctor at the Lincoln Regional Center. The judge’s order did not specify when the examination was to take place or when a report on Mattison would be made to the court.

He was originally charged with first degree murder in Garnett’s death, but took a plea deal to second degree murder on Aug. 20 in Clay County District Cour
