Two makers of vitamins, dietary supplements and over-the-counter medicine plan to spend nearly $25 million on expansion projects in Suffolk County to boost production while hiring an additional 75 workers.

Gemini Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Commack and Commerce Drive LLC in Hauppauge won preliminary approval last week from the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency for a combined $2.8 million in tax breaks over 10 or 15 years, depending on the company.

Gemini and Commerce Drive are members of Long Island’s pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industry, which employs more than 10,000 people — making it the largest component of the manufacturing sector, according to a 2019 report by the IDA and the Albany-based training organization Workforce Development Institute.
