BOSTON — On opening day, every general manager knows they will not get through the 162-game season without a big injury to one of their players.

The Guardians have had their share this year including Ben Lively, Paul Sewald, Andrew Walters and Will Brennan. They carried veteran starters Shane Bieber and John Means in hopes that they’d rebound from Tommy John surgery. Bieber was traded, while Means is getting closer to being activated.
