SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — Village officials are getting figures for internet service that will help them substantially reduce a monthly $983.95 bill from Spectrum.

Quotes from Archtop Fiber and Planet Networks are being taken to determine whether those fiber optic companies can offer lower prices but provide faster internet speeds.

“We reached out…and they immediately came over and I gave them a list of all the locations that we need (service) for,” village Clerk Peggy Melville said.

Officials consider it important to update the technology so that infrastructure and village administration can work smoothly.

“Trying to streamline (village service) is a big deal,” Melville said. “This has been inherited over time…and people haven’t done anything. So, we’re just trying to do our share.”
