California favorites In-N-Out and Trader Joe's made the top of a recent list of best employers with over 500 employees in the state.

Forbes released its annual list of America's best employers by state on Aug. 21 and ranked more than 2,500 companies throughout the country.

The publication partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 160,000 employees on how they would rate their employer from 0-10. The survey included criteria such as wage parity, work culture, paths to professional advancement and whether the employer takes action on issues such as sexual harassment.

Some smaller states had only three employers on their list, while a more populous state like California had over 100 listed.
