WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is slamming Republicans on Capitol Hill and pushing back on claims that she is welcoming the extension of the Trump administration's federal surge indefinitely.

"We don't need a presidential emergency," Bowser said Wednesday when talking about the threats from GOP to continue President Donald Trump's crime crackdown in D.C. "The emergency ends on September 10. The only way it can be extended legally is by the Congress."

The Trump administration's federal surge deadline is a week away, but the D.C. mayor has made it clear that the presence of federal agents and the city's collaboration with them will continue well beyond next week.
