EastEnders devotees reckon they've 'sussed out' Max Branning's link to Zoe Slater following his unexpected reappearance on the show.

The last time viewers saw actor Jake Wood, 52, portraying Max was in 2021 when Linda Carter chose to reunite with Mick Carter post their affair.

Max is most notorious for his scandalous affair with Stacey, who was wedded to his son Bradley Branning, who tragically died during a live episode.

With EastEnder chief Ben Wadey hinting at major developments in Wednesday night's (September 3) episode, it turned out to be more dramatic than anyone expected on the BBC soap.

It was swiftly disclosed that Zoe was the one shot due to Jack Branning and Ravi Gulati's scuffle over a firearm the previous night, leaving Kat Slater's daughter battling for her life.
