Fire near Granville claims lives of 3 teens

GRANVILLE, Iowa — Authorities say three teens have died as a result of a house fire that occurred Monday near Granville.

At 4:58 a.m., the Granville Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a residence on 430th Street, 2 1/2 miles northwest of Granville, according to a statement from the Sioux County Sheriff's Office.

Granville firefighters found a residence filled with heavy smoke. Hospers Fire Department provided mutual assistance.

Four people were discovered inside the residence in critical condition. They were taken by ambulance services to Orange City Area Health System, where Kolten Hofmeyer, 17, of Alton, Iowa, died as a result of injuries suffered in the fire.

The statement said three other victims were flown to specialty units at other hospitals for further treatment
