WILKES-BARRE — U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan Jr. said on Wednesday that the fentanyl crisis is the most urgent public health and public safety threat facing our nation today.

Bresnahan, R-Dallas Township, released a statement on the passage of H.R. 747 — the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025.

The legislation passed the House yesterday by a vote of 407-4.

The Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025 will hold Chinese companies and officials accountable for the spread of fentanyl and related synthetic opioids coming from China.

“Families in every community have been shattered by this poison, which often traces back to Chinese producers and the precursor chemicals they ship around the world,” said Bresnahan. “The Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025 tackles this issue head-on by expanding sanctions again
