NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Last week, construction kicked off in New Haven on a $1.87 million project to make the Foxon Boulevard area safer, especially for people walking alongside or crossing it.

State funding is covering about $1.8 million dollars, while the City of New Haven is covering the rest.

The project is considered critical, as hundreds of crashes have occurred on the roadway in recent years, including some that have been deadly.

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said about 27,000 cars drive through the area of Foxon Boulevard every single day, and the construction is focusing on the area between Middletown Avenue and Quinnipiac Avenue. That is one of the city’s busiest and most crash-prone corridors.
