Today in History revisits the September 4, 1958 edition of the Grand Forks Herald and highlights a story about Miss North Dakota competing in the Miss America Pageant.

Helen Korfhage, 1501 Cherry, seeks a talent trophy in tonight’s Miss America Pageant competition in Atlantic City to go with those she won earlier as Miss Grand Forks and Miss North Dakota.

The University of North Dakota student was in the evening dress competition Wednesday night, the only division of the competition in which nightly winners are not announced. Tonight she will sing in competition with the talents of about 17 other Miss America contestants.

Friday night she will take part in the swim suit competition.
