Channing Tatum may have just joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe last year as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine , but he actually first auditioned for the franchise over a decade ago!
In a new interview, the 45-year-old actor looked back at bombing his audition to play Thor in the 2011 movie of the same name, which was directed by Kenneth Branagh .
“I didn’t really want to be Thor,” Channing admitted to Variety . “But I wanted to audition in front of Kenneth Branagh.”
“After I did one take, [Branagh] was like, ‘You’re not allowed to move. Put your hands on this chair,’” he recalled. “And I froze. He nailed my crutch. I spent the next five years really trying to learn stillness.”
Ultimately, the role of Thor went to Chris Hemsworth and the rest is history.
