CUMBERLAND – One piece of magic from Paynter Maher made the difference in an early Division I girls soccer showdown on a perfect Wednesday night at Tucker Field.

Cumberland’s junior striker delivered a brilliant solo goal in the 69th minute of the Sept. 3 match to lift the Clippers past Mt. Hope, 2-1, in a rematch of the 2023 title meeting.

Maher took possession near midfield and turned on the speed, launching a 45-yard run through four Huskies defenders. She cut a diagonal path toward the left post and produced a classy finish against the grain with the outside
