SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A Northeast Nebraska man now knows when he will stand trial for murder in the death of his father two years ago.
Carl Ruskamp was in court Wednesday morning, Sept. 3, in Wayne County District Court for his first hearing in the case since being declared competent to stand trial last month.
Ruskamp is charged with first-degree murder in the September 2022 shooting death of his father, Gerald, outside of Wisner. At Wednesday’s hearing, Ruskamp officially waived his right to a speedy trial. His defense team had made a motion for continuance so Ruskamp could be further evaluated by doctors and specialists.
Ruskamp’s trial is set to begin on March 16, 2026.
He’s due back in court in December for another pre-trial hearing. Until then, he’ll remain in custody at the Lincoln
