MEMPHIS, Tenn. - "Several" cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) have been reported at Sherwood Elementary School, Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) confirmed Tuesday.
"Our team is taking extra precautions to keep classrooms safe, and we ask parents to keep an eye out for symptoms such as fever, mouth sores, or rash," the school district said in a statement. The disease is a common childhood illness that can sometimes lead to serious complications.

In a statement, MSCS said that Sherwood Elementary parents were notified of the cases Wednesday, Aug. 27. The exact number of cases was not immediately known.
