HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. - No charges will be brought against a Mid-South deputy who shot the passenger of a man involved in a chase last year.

That shooting happened on October 19, 2024. District Attorney General Frederick Agee said Xavier Evans failed to stop his vehicle for law enforcement and "put the lives at risk of" three people, including the deputy and Evans' passengers.

Evans crashed his car after leading deputies on a chase, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The deputy approached the crashed vehicle and fired a single shot, striking one of Evans' passengers after the situation escalated.
