The Sacramento City Council approved the addition of 12 properties and a historic district with connections to Black history and the Civil Rights movement to the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources.
Among the newly designated sites is the former office of Dr. Arthur R. Trent, located on 10th Street. Trent was Sacramento's first Black dentist after World War II and was recognized as a pioneer in his field and a Civil Rights advocate.
Another notable site is the Leon Residence, designed by James C. Dodd, Sacramento's first licensed Black architect, showcasing mid-century modern style.
Additionally, the New Helvetia Historic District was also added to the city's register.
