There’s a Rembrandt style aesthetic to the images Kenny Brown captured in the theatre at Trafford General Hospital recently.
He was given permission to shoot a very special operation which is being trialled to help sufferers of sleep apnoea.
Something about the surgeons huddled over the patient in deep concentration, illuminated by the operating theatre lighting, evokes the Dutch master.
Or perhaps it’s the sight of blood and the controlled violence of the scalpel that makes me think of those striking 16th century paintings by Caravaggio. There’s a reason they call it theatre after all.
