LLOYD, N.Y. — A New Jersey resident is suing town police and Officer Eric Funccius for “excessive use of force, battery and assault” and is seeking $27 million in “compensatory and punitive damages,” according to a civil rights complaint filed in federal court.

The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York on Tuesday, Aug. 26, by Mohammed Nashat Khaled. The lawsuit was first reported by the Times Union of Albany .

Khaled’s lawyer, Ryanne G. Konan of Wappingers Falls did not respond to a Freeman email requesting bodycam footage of the arrest.
