Harris Construction is poised to have its attorneys’ fees covered in its long-running defense in the lawsuit filed by local contractor Stephen Davis.
Last week, Fresno County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Hamilton awarded Harris Construction with $1.66 million in attorneys’ fees.
The backstory: Davis filed a lawsuit against Harris Construction and Fresno Unified School District in 2012 over the builder’s lease-leaseback agreement to build Gaston Middle School. • Davis, who has done over $182 million in work for Fresno Unified, accused the district of illegally using lease-leaseback to avoid competitive bids. • But after going to trial last year, Hamilton ruled in favor of Fresno Unified and Harris Construction earlier this year, noting that Harris Construction never had any ability to
