PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was stabbed while trying to defend a person who had been attacked outside a Porterville taco truck.

On Saturday, just before 3 a.m., a fight between five people broke out in front of a taco truck in the area of West Street and Edison Avenue.

During the fight, police say two men and a woman took turns beating a man with a folding chair. Another man stepped in, trying to defend the victim, and was stabbed in the chest.

He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening wounds.

By the time officers arrived, the three suspects had already fled the scene. However, police were soon able to identify 24-year-old Plainview resident Luis Tovar as the suspected stabber and 28-year-old Strathmore resident Carlos Garcia as one of the assailants.
