Detroiter Devin Monair-Donth Pettway has reached a $145,000 settlement with the Michigan State Police in his federal civil rights lawsuit that alleged excessive force, his lawyer announced Thursday.

“This case was about accountability and making sure that what happened to Devin doesn’t happen to anyone else,” said Pettway's attorney, Steve Haney, in a statement. “The settlement provides some measure of justice and allows Devin to move forward with his life and his family.”

Haney decined to specify the exact amount of the settlement, but the Michigan Attorney General's Office said it amounted to $145,000.
