Former Mets manager Davey Johnson, who managed the team from 1984 through early in the 1990 season, died today at the age of 82. No cause of death was immediately announced. Johnson, the most successful Mets manager of all time with a .588 winning percentage, oversaw the second golden era of Mets baseball.

Johnson played in the majors from 1965 to 1978, winning two World Series with the Orioles, with stops in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Yomiuri along the way. He was a four-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winning second baseman.
