A 24-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Scarborough on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. at the pedestrian crosswalk located at Steeles Avenue East and Midland Avenue.
According to Toronto Police, a 59-year-old man was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester northbound on Midland Avenue when he made a left turn onto westbound Steeles Avenue. "It is alleged that the Subaru struck the pedestrian, and the driver remained on scene," said Constable Shannon Eames in a statement released late Friday.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. This incident marks the 28th road fatality in the city this year, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
Police are appealing to local residents, businesses, and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or the incident to come forward.
