Southern Miss football aims for its first win under first-year coach Charles Huff.

The Golden Eagles (0-1) face Jackson State (1-0) on Sept. 6 (4 p.m. CT, ESPN+) at M.M. Roberts Stadium. It's the first meeting between the teams since 2018.

Southern Miss fell to Mississippi State in its season opener , 34-17, after being down 13-10 at halftime. Senior quarterback Braylon Braxton threw for two touchdowns and 199 yards.

Jackson State will lean on quarterback JaCobian Morgan and running back Ahmad Miller, who produced 172 rushing yards and two scores in the Tigers' 28-14 Week 1 win against Hampton. Braxton and Morgan were both named their conference's respective preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
