Two people have died after of a crash on the Coquihalla Highway where one of the vehicles was travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Just before 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, police received calls about a vehicle driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes on the Coquihalla Highway just south of Kamloops, near Inks Lake. Just a few minutes later, before police could intercept the wrong-way driver, a grey Dodge Ram pickup and a white Hyundai Kona hatchback collided head-on.

As a result, two people have died and three others were seriously injured. The crash closed the stretch of highway from Kamloops to Merritt for around nine hours.

BC Highway Patrol is investigating the matter and are looking for more witnesses and/or dash-camera video to determine
