AMHERST, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, the Amherst Fire Department responded to multiple calls of a porch fire at the Olympia Place apartment complex. When crews had arrived, they quickly spotted the blaze and noticed it was spreading through to the first and second floor.

After the first responders made sure that all occupants of the buildings were out of the apartment, crews began to work over the course of two hours with the assistance of Belchertown, Hadley, Northampton, and Pelham fire departments.

Six residents were displaced as a result of the fire. They are currently being assisted by the Red Cross for housing. Two of the occupants were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
