JAMESTOWN, Calif. — A black bear was killed early Friday morning after being hit by a pickup truck on Highway 49 in Jamestown, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. near Wigwam Road when a 2003 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 30-year-old from Turlock hit the bear as it entered the road.

The bear ended up on the highway shoulder and died from its injuries. Officials said the size and age of the bear were not immediately known at the scene.

Ayers, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time, was not hurt and traffic on Highway 49 was not affected.
