COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Sumter County early Saturday morning.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 12 a.m. Saturday on Broad Street, about five miles west of Sumter.

According to the Highway Patrol, a 2020 Honda moped was hit from behind by an unknown vehicle while they were both traveling east.

SCHP confirmed the moped driver died at the scene.

Sumter County Coroner Robert Baker identified the victim as 62-year-old Gregory Davis and stated an autopsy will be performed on Monday at MUSC in Charleston.

The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
