If passed, the no camping ordinance would make it a minor misdemeanor to leave private property such as tents, sleeping bags or other personal items on city-owned property.
Canton Mayor William Sherer II said the new ordinance will give the city power to enforce the no camping law citywide, which will ultimately allow them to help more people get access to resources.
Canton City Council is expected to discuss the no camping ordinance during its committee meeting at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 8. The ordinance is expected to be voted on at the Sept. 15 council meeting.
