A 70-year-old Nottinghamshire woman is gearing up to run a major marathon in support of a local charity that "does amazing work".

Mary McGowan, from Woodthorpe, is set to take on her latest challenge - the Medoc Marathon in France, for Nottingham's Emmanuel House .

The Hockley-based charity - which has provided the city's homeless with hot dinners and shelter for almost 50 years - recently told Nottinghamshire Live it has run out of essential food items .

Having taken up marathon running at the age of 48, Mary has competed in the high-energy competitions across the world, in cities as far as New York.
