Douglas Alexander has insisted Anas Sarwar is "nobody's branch office manager" as he plots a Labour fightback in Scotland before next year's Holyrood election. ‌

The new Scottish Secretary predicted today his party would prove the doubters wrong and defy polling which puts them as many as 20 points behind the SNP. ‌

And the MP for East Lothian confirmed he would play a leading role in Labour's 2026 election campaign as it looks for its first Holyrood victory since 2003. ‌

Alexander made a return to Cabinet on Friday following a 15-year break after Keir Starmer shocked many in Labour by sacking Ian Murray as part of a sweeping ministerial reshuffle.
