Villagers have accused a Leicestershire council off selling recreational land for housing behind their backs. They say the land is a "popular green space" and should not be lost to housing .

The claims have been made by villagers of Stoney Stanton who have accused Blaby District Council (BDC) of trying to sell off recreational land at South Drive. Villagers claim the sale, which first emerged in February this year, goes against the council's own Local Plan - a document which sets out where housing can and cannot be built in the district.
