Matthew Boyd started but had some issues — however, he recovered nicely, and if Nico Hoerner were two inches taller, no runs would have scored. Perhaps an entire lumber company would be overkill, but the Cubs went into their half of the first down one to Nationals pitcher Brad Lord. It took another inning to tie it up [VIDEO].

Daylen Lile untied it [VIDEO]. And that was it for the scoring. Boyd threw another quality start (and got his tenth pickoff, which is a record at least a hundred years old), but the bats went cold and PCA fouled a ball off his right knee, suffering a contusion that’s likely to keep him off the field for a minute.
