Police said a protest in London on Saturday in support of the banned group Palestine Action led to the arrest of 890 people.
The majority of the arrests were for supporting a proscribed group, which is an offence under the Terrorism Act, while a significant number were also made for assaults on police officers and other public order offences after the protest turned violent.
The group was proscribed by the UK Government under anti-terrorism legislation in July, which makes membership of or support for the group a criminal offence.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Claire Smart who led the policing operation for the Metropolitan police said: “I’d like to thank all officers involved in yesterday’s operation for their professionalism and tireless work despite the level of abuse that they f
