A nationwide emergency alert has been triggered, ringing out across the majority of mobile phones in the country as part of a vital test of a life-saving system. ‌

Millions of phones have emitted a distinctive siren-like alarm in what is the second national trial of the UK's alert system in two years. This follows an extensive government awareness campaign. ‌
