GIBSONVILLE, N.C. — On the one-year anniversary of Diondre Overton’s death, family and friends gathered Saturday at Northeast Park in Gibsonville to celebrate his life and legacy.
The event, called Big Play Dre Day, featured a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, 7-on-7 flag football, a chess competition with prizes, a community cookout and live music. Admission was free , and the public was invited to bring lawn chairs.
Overton, a Page High School graduate and former Clemson University wide receiver, was shot and killed Sept. 7, 2024, during a party in Greensboro. He was 26.
