Oscar winner and Sacramento native Jessica Chastain received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week and talked about her family's struggles to afford meals while growing up.

Chastain was born in Sacramento and graduated from El Camino High School.

She went on to attend Sacramento City College and Juilliard and in 2022, she won an Oscar for her performance in "The Eyes of Tammy Faye."

During the ceremony, Chastain recalled her family's financial struggles while being raised in a single-parent household.

"So I grew up in Northern California, and my mom had me when she was 17," Chastain said. "And it was four of us: my mom, my sister, my brother and me."

She said she "didn't really know what normal looked like outside of our front door. Life was just life."
