MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - It’s a topic that can be uncomfortable to talk about, but it’s an important one. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

The Alabama Department of Mental Health and statewide partners are uniting in strength, dignity, hope, and purpose to save lives.

“We want to make sure that we are raising awareness around suicide risks, knowing what those warning signs are, promoting evidence-based care, which also includes promoting evidence-based training, and also sharing messages of hope and resilience,” Maegan Huffman, Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Alabama Department of Mental Health, said.

In 2023 alone, there were nearly 900 Alabamians who died by suicide. ADMH wants you to be aware of the warning signs so you can step in should a loved one need
