SIOUX CITY — The weekend should have been a happy one for Crystal Ramos.
The 44-year-old Sioux City resident was celebrating a birthday for her son, one of her four children, with a pool party at a hotel. But in the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 17, she got a message no one would ever want to receive.
"I got the phone call at 3:45 in the morning by my neighbors telling me the house was on fire and I ran right up here," Ramos said, while standing on the lawn in front of her 110-year-old home along 20th Street on Sioux City's north end. The fire did extensive damage to the second floor of the home.
