GAINESVILLE — Florida’s stunning loss to USF dropped the Gators out of the Associated Press Top 25 after they’d risen to No. 13 before stumbling at home against the unranked Bulls.

UF’s 18-16 defeat Saturday night in the Swamp might have been the most stunningly inexplicable loss during Billy Napier’s four seasons. The Gators (1-1) were 17.5-point favorites against the unranked Bulls.

But Florida scored just one touchdown and committed 11 penalties for 103 yards, including back-to-back defensive penalties on USF’s game-winning drive — one when defensive tackle Brendan Bett spit on Bulls offensive lineman Cole Skinner
