WOOLWICH -- A Rockland man was killed in a head-on vehicle crash in Woolrich Friday morning.

According to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office, they received a report of a two vehicle head-on collision on U.S. Route one between the Montsweag restaurant and the intersection of the Mountain Road shortly after 4 a.M.

Officials say a vehicle traveling north crossed over the centerline. Both vehicles burst into flames as a result of the crash.

Alex Colson, 38 of Rockland was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of extensive injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was able to get out of his vehicle. Authorities say he was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for non-life threatening injuries.

U.S. Route 1 was closed for approximately 4 hours.
